History of Synthesis is a lecture-style class that provides an overview of the development and proliferation of synthesizers and other methods of generating electronic sounds from the early 20th century into the 2020s. We examine the technical innovations of historic synthesizers, their social impacts and how they relate to many of the items available at the library.
Naomi Mitchell is a designer, builder, educator, and artist whose work focuses primarily on modular synthesizers. She makes synthesizers as omiindustriies and her musical and artistic practice explores controlled chaos, feedback, and intentional failure. She lives and works in LA.
