Do you want to record music at home? This hands-on workshop will explore the process of home recording in a creative and accessible way. Learn how to set up a simple home studio, layer sounds from different sources, and use low-cost tools (including ones from the Feminist Synth Lab library) to bring your musical ideas to life. From setting up a studio with your laptop to mixing your first track, we’ll demystify the recording process and help you get started on the path of discovering your own sound. The first half will be presentational; the second half will be interactive. Bring your ears, your questions, or any gear you’d like to play with—this session is for you. See you there!Casia Levine is a writer and lifelong DIY musician based in Los Angeles who helps book performers for Sunday Dinner and Writhe. She plays in the bands russia and miasma and enjoys listening to the sounds of birds and people in the alley outside her apartment.
This event prioritizes all marginalized genders, including but not limited to trans women, cis women, trans men, non-binary, intersex, gender nonconforming, two-spirit and questioning folx. We ask that our cis male allies and friends respectfully do not sign up, as we recognize that electronic music is overwhelmingly dominated by cis men.
