An exhibition of new textiles and sculptures by Los Angeles based artist Ako Castuera. CRADLE opens Thursday December 7th and will be on display until January 7th! 

The work in this show emerges from my last two years of meandering research into soil health, tagging along with shepherds/grazers, botanical dyers, cultural workers and sheep, immersing myself in a world built around cycles of nature. The wool in this body of work is tied to specific animals, people, and places that hold traditional and emerging practices of interspecies recuperation.

‘Cradle’ calls back to the figure made from string and fingers: a cat’s cradle. It’s an opening form that offers an evolving ground for collaboration, a site for process, practice, grief and play.
