Join us for a screening the day after Valentine's Day, 𝐆𝐢𝐫𝐥 𝐂𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐡 presents video and software-based and work by twelve artists engaging with themes of femininity, desire, and how admiration is mediated by our screens. Within the culture of K-Pop, “Girl Crush” is a commonly used term to describe groups or concepts that explicitly market their female idols as strong and powerful figures (“marketing them to women/queer fans as opposed to marketing them to men.”) In the wake of 2023, a period deemed by various articles “The Year of the Girl 🎀,” this collection of work looks back and forth, curious about girlhood and girlishness not as a trend, but rather as an expansive, imposed condition of being on the internet.
The evening will open with a reading of the essay “Lucky Girl Serum” by Biz Sherbert @markfisherquotes from Maya Man's new publication FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT.
